Iran names TISFF intl. selection committee members
Iran has named the selection committee members of the international section of the 29th Tehran International Short Film Festival (TISFF).
Minoo Farshchi, Shahaboddin Adel and Majid Sheikh-Ansari have been selected to review and choose the international entries of this year’s festival.
Farshchi studied theater arts at the Santa Monica College in California, US and has served as a jury member at numerous national and international festivals.
Dr. Shahaboddin Adel is the current head of the Cinema and Theater Faculty of Tehran University of Arts and has done extensive research on dramatic arts.
Majid Sheikh-Ansari is also a member of the Cinema and Theater Faculty of Tehran University of Arts who holds screenwriting classes and reviews films.
More than 5,200 productions have been submitted to the secretariat of the 29th TISFF, set to be held in the Iranian capital and some other provinces.
The annual event will screen fiction and experimental films as well as documentaries and animations from Iran and other countries such as Egypt, Lebanon, Indonesia, Palestine, Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Turkey, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Morocco and Qatar.
The films are required to have been completed after January 1, 2010 with maximum running time of 40 minutes in all genres.
Organized by the Iranian Youth Cinema Society, this year’s event will run from October 1 to 7, 2012.
The Society had earlier announced that at least seven member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) would take part in TISFF 2012.
The 28th edition of Tehran International Short Film Festival screened 110 films from 35 countries. Spain had the highest number of competing films in the festival with 14 films, while France, Germany and Britain ranked 2nd to 4th.
The Iranian Youth Cinema Society produces around 1800 short films every year many of which have been screened in a number of international festivals.
